one year ago today, richard and i took our two-week-old baby on a hike, and i patted myself on the back for walking more than a quarter of a mile. a year later, we have been into london for the new year's day parade and walked all around town. madeline sat on richard's shoulders waving at the donkeys and dogs.
i've had a really memorable year, and lots of fun days out with maddie during my 12-month maternity leave. i also have achieved some, but sadly not all, of my resolutions. here is a recap:
write something every day (letter, blog, or fiction)
i found this one hard to measure so i didn't really achieve it. i did write one more short story that i am proud of, but i'm modifying this goal next year so that it happens.
work on a basic family tree
i have no excuses. i didn't do this.
organize two family vacations
we went on a fantastic long weekend to cornwall back in the spring, and madeline had her own room at the budock vean hotel. we had baby monitoring and five-course gourmet meals every night. we also took maddie to the us three times this year, two trips of which were strictly holiday.
create a wedding album. finally!
or maybe not. i've given up on this one. it's just not going to happen. but we do have lovely photos in digital form that come up on our imac's screen saver. if you want to see some, you can also see them online at our photographer's website. there. done.
update recipe database and print top 20
done! i have a database that i can add recipes to and print from, and this year i added loads of my favourite dishes. not only that, i printed them onto index cards, and--da-dah--laminated them with my personal laminator. i'm so excited about this one i'm going to continue it in 2007.
plan and go on weekly date nights
done and still ongoing. rich and i started this when maddie was two week old. for the first few weeks we stayed at home and did jigsaw puzzles together. at four weeks, we went out and meg babysat, and since then we've kept this up. we're going to continue this one too.
enjoy at least 24 more days out in london
i didn't count, but we have been in quite a lot, and madeline has been to most of the major museums.
get professional photos taken of maddie
our friend and awesome portrait photographer, wilky, agreed to take these when madeline was much smaller than she is now! we need to get some more done but the ones we have are fantastic. i'm really glad i prioritized this one.
take and post at least one photo weekly
i have a few left to post, but i not only did i take these weekly shots all year, i also continued my photo of the day throughout 2006.
breastfeed at least six months
we're on 13 months, and i am still doing one feed a day, each evening. maddie is having her other milk as organic cow's milk from a cup, and she never had any formula. i was surprised to manage this one and feel good about it. good thing, too, since it took up many many hours of this year.
make homemade baby food
maddie eats most everything now, and particularly loves corn chowder, leek and courgette soup, and fish casserole. i recommend this one to every new mum. it's easy!
write in maddie’s baby book
it's full of photos and dates, and i even remembered to write in it each month on the 19th.
go on at least 24 geocache hikes
if i counted correctly, we did 16 geocaches this year.
exercise at least three times weekly
i trained for a mini triathlon this year, but didn't compete. i have been a bit inconsistent in exercising three times a week, but think i deserve partial credit for this one.
walk, don’t drive, to egham
i know this walk by heart.
get at least six spa treatments
this was a real sacrifice. best spa: the thermal heaven at pennyhill park. amazing place.
use cloth nappies
we've used the nifty nappies cloth diaper service all year, and maddie seems comfortable in the resuable nappies. plus, i can feel good that we haven't contributed as much to the landfill.
say no to plastic bags
when i remember....
organize a 2nd annual towpath clean
nope. not done. no excuses.
create a royal mail red rubber band collection
i collected these everywhere, but haven't counted them yet or sent them back to the royal mail. suffice it to say, i have a whole vase of them.
happy new year!
