for several years prior to 2007, i had a new year's resolution to drink eight glasses of water a day. i like my resolutions to be measurable, and if they're not, i find i have a harder time keeping them. the eight glasses goal seemed like a way to ensure that i made it stick. for whatever reason though (i like to think it's because no one actually drinks eight glasses of water every day and if they did they would float away), i never could do it.
this year, instead of failing at the eight glasses goal again, i changed my resolution to drinking water with every meal. this has worked wonders for me. i have no excuse to not do it, and while it doesn't get me to eight glasses, it means i consistently drink more water each and every day. as an added benefit, it reduces the number of other liquids (which often have added sugar etc) that i drink at meals instead. i highly recommend it to those of you out there trying to increase your water intake.
