as neighbourhood watch coordinator, i finally convinced a bunch of my neighbours to sign up for the police direct notification service. the local police have been encouraging me to get names to them, and i found the service quite useful, so i pitched it at a recent neighbourhood meeting.
today, less than two weeks after sending in my list, i received an email from the service:
"police direct, the pilot messaging service which you have signed up to, will be suspended from midnight 31 march 2007 due to circumstances beyond our control. the technology supporting the system is being shut down by the national policing improvement agency (NPIA) for financial and contractual reasons."
just great.
