we all piled in the car this morning and went to hornbaek, a beach not far from where our friends live to enjoy the 75 degree F/24 degree C sunshine. we had a fantastic time, complete with sand castles, a shell collection, the discovery of "a dinosaur egg", digging with spades, and the requisite burgers and hot dogs for lunch before heading home.

while i got a little confused between the characters for the first half of this book, and i wished i had a little more political context, i enjoyed this. set in pre-revolutionary china, this looks at a russian girl who falls in love with a chinese communist.
