i should have resisted. it would have saved me a lot of time and mess. but no. of course. i didn't.
i was standing in the queue at our work cafeteria today, and saw the "pot of sweeties" that they leave tempting us near the till. i had a major sweet tooth, so bought a container of chocolate raisins. it wasn't a small container, either, so i thought i would share them during the two-hour meeting i was going to in the afternoon. i put them into my work bag for later.
my sweet tooth must not have been quite as bad as i thought it was, or the afternoon meeting was more interesting than expected, as i forgot all about the tempting sweets waiting for me in my bag. when the meeting ended, i put my laptop in the bag and headed off to pick up madeline from nursery.
it wasn't until later that i discovered the price i had paid for my weakness: reaching in to recover my keys, i felt slimy, gooey mess. i glanced in and found that the container of chocolate goodness had come open, spilling raisins all over the bottom of my bag. that, combined with the warmth of my laptop battery, meant i had melted chocolate covering everything else i had with me.
i spent an hour this evening using a cloth and a bamboo skewer (for crevices) cleaning melted goo off of my laptop, my phone, my camera, my power cable, my calendar, my work id....you get the idea.
i swore the whole time i was doing it that it served me right and this was the end of my chocolate cravings.
until of course i found the few sweets that were still left in the container.
