well crap. here we were feeling good that we had gotten through a very rainy winter without any serious river level issues, and we now have a flood warning in july.
you'd have to be living in a closet to not know that britain has been hit by the worst flooding it's seen in 60 years, with most of the nation's rivers swelling over their banks. as of last night, those rivers include ours and we were issued with a warning to move valuables, cars and pets to higher ground and prepare for the flooding to enter our properties. sandbags arrived this afternoon, and we spent last night moving everything of value upstairs, rolling up carpets and dismantling and moving electronics. tonight we are packing up emergency kit, as the river levels are supposed to peak by wednesday and we need to be prepared to evacuate.
the river is hurtling by, apparently moving at 70 miles per hour in some places, and we can see it rising a few inches every few hours. we are preparing for the worst but really really hoping it won't actually turn out that bad.
meanwhile, it is still raining.
Hopefully the picture on the 24th, even with no comments, is a hopeful sign that the waters have receded?
