we have arrived. our holiday started off a bit rough when our flight from heathrow to boston was canceled due to a technical fault, but nearly twenty-four hours later, we are finally here in gorgeous cape cod.
when we learned that we weren't flying out on the flight we had booked, we queued for four hours to find out what our options were, only to learn that all the flights to boston were sold out until monday. rather than wait and miss nearly three days of our holiday, we flew out on an 8pm flight to new york, and rented a car there to drive to boston. our flight arrived at jfk at about midnight, and we didn't get away from the rental car company until one-thirty in the morning.
the flight up to massachusetts was uneventful but very long. richard did all the driving; i struggled to stay awake in the passenger seat. maddie slept quite well in the back. we stopped for about 30 minutes for a nap at a rest area at some point around 4am, and finally pulled into our cape cod resort at about seven o'clock this morning. it's beautiful here!

Aw, yes, welcome to the reality of modern jet travel, and my perception is it's a lot worse today than ever before. We dread the unknown when we set off to the airport, wondering where we will be stranded. Sort of spoils the vacation, you know?
