our friend wilky is a fantastic wedding and portrait photographer, and he and his family came over today to spend some time with us and take photos of madeline. she's such a bundle of energy, it's hard to catch her standing still for photos these days, as she'd much rather collect leaves and chase balls around the garden. nevertheless, i'm confident wilky got some great shots today. i can't wait to see them!

while i got a little confused between the characters for the first half of this book, and i wished i had a little more political context, i enjoyed this. set in pre-revolutionary china, this looks at a russian girl who falls in love with a chinese communist.
