richard and i played halo 3 for a couple of hours tonight. after a bit of a false start, where we tried unsuccessfully for five minutes to follow our allies up a mountain before discovering we were supposed to go a different direction all together, we were somewhat successful on our campaign.
one of my biggest issues in games is that i get lost quite easily, but halo is better than most at helping me stay oriented. the maps are good and particularly when we play cooperatively, i can stay with richard (and the plot) pretty successfully. i like the controller setup as well--it seems really intuitive to me, whereas in some of the other games we have tried to play i have really struggled to do simple things like look around and walk at the same time. the only real down side of this game is that on our tv, the split-screen mode makes the view very small and it's sometimes quite hard to see what's happening.
in first-person shooting games i usually like to hang back and shoot from a distance, but tonight i kept picking up this huge ax-like weapon. it was very powerful but required me to be right up next to the enemy, so i charged up and whacked everything in sight. i kept dying, but it was fun while it lasted!
Frank & I look forward to the opportunity to play the new Halo 3, however, it will have to be with a friend who has the 360. We only have the original XBox and Halo 2 which we really enjoy when there's time to play. Our stipulation in that is waiting until the boys are in bed because of the violence. Enjoy and you'll have to tell me some good secrets!
