several years ago, i blogged about the fact that i hate february. i have terrible februaries. honestly. every year. my februaries are so bad that most of my friends have heard about this and probably dread the coming of the month, knowing that they will have to listen to me complain.
2008 didn't fail to disappoint. i started the month with maddie recovering from the chicken pox, some health issues, a kitchen in the midst of a remodel plus all the joy that comes along with that, and work travel schedules that put richard and me constantly on opposite sides of the world. i was hoping this was all i would be dealt, and frankly it felt like enough.
unfortuately, it wasn't. on february 8th i got a call from my family in missouri saying that my dad was going in unexpectedly for what ended up being a valve repair and quintuple bypass surgery (who even knew you could have five? i thought four was the maximum but it turns out some people are even luckier than that). madeline and i flew home, met richard there, and saw dad for the day before he went into the hospital. we stayed on for the two weeks following surgery, ten scary days of which dad spent in intensive care, fighting to get off the many machines and drugs that were keeping him alive.
on exactly march 1st, dad was released from the hospital and he is now at home, getting stronger every day. i get tears in my eyes when i think about how grateful i am for the incredible surgeons and staff at the freeman heart institute, how much i appreciate all the people who prayed for and supported us, and how thankful i am that i still have my dad at the other end of a phoneline.
i still hate february. but i now love march. happy march thanksgiving, everyone. thank you. thank you. thank you.
Oh, Shannon-
I am so relieved your dad is doing well. I'll keep him and your mom in my thoughts and prayers.

Glad to hear that your dad is recovering. All our love to you, Richard and Maddie.
On the bright side, February will not have 29 days next year.
