i was a cheerleader in high school and our school mascot was the cardinal. i remember performing at pep rallys, winning the spirit stick at summer camp, wearing sweaters and long socks with our skirts for the cold football games, and riding in the homecoming parade. my european friends think cheerleading is silly (well so do many of my american friends) and i can see where they are coming from, but i still have to admit i enjoyed it.
a picture is worth a thousand words.
Shannon! I just googled 'Clarksville Iowa' and found your page. I remember visiting you in Kansas in the summer of 1985, the week you were at cheerleading camp. You taught me a cheer called "Beat the Bears" that I still remember. You also loaned me your copy of _A Separate Peace_ that summer, which I took back to Iowa and never returned. (Sorry bout that.)
I saw your parents last year in the Amanas -- your dad performed our wedding. It sounds like you're doing well. Your baby is beautiful. I loved reading your memories of Clarksville and hope that you'll write more.
