when i was a kid, we had a whole collection of 1930-1950 radio programmes on cassette tape. among our favourites were baby snooks and daddy, the shadow, and amos & andy, and my brother raleigh and i listened to the set so often we knew much of the dialogue by heart. almost thirty years later, i can no longer remember this level of detail, but ironically i do remember--word-for-word--the introduction on each of the tapes, which was a warning about the quality: "this old-time radio programme was originally aired live, long before the advent of high-fidelity...."
